Un-Equally Yoked: Can a Christian marry an unbeliever?

“Love is blind and marriage is an eyeopener.” It may be very relevant in the case of romantic relationship between Christian believer and an unbeliever. In my pastoral ministry I had come across several situations where a believer wants to marry an unbeliever. In such a case, believers used to say that “s/he is good”; “I will lead him/her to Christ”; “others are doing it”; “give him or her a chance”; “I already said “Yes.”” I observed that believers who are involving romantically with unbelievers feel it right first, then they try to bring Bible verses or logic to prove that it’s right. Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh (Genesis 2:24,  ESV). 1.      What is marriage? ·        Marriage is about a man and a woman joined together to become one ( Mt. 19:5-9) . ·        It is a relationship of increasing intimacy and growing interdependency. ·        It is lifelong covenantal relationship. BIBLICAL UNDERSTANDING OF MARRIAGE

1.        God’s role in marriage   ·          God is the founder of institution of marriage. Genesis 2.22: Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.  ·          We derive our family name from God the Father. Ephesians 3:14-15:   14 For this reason I kneel before the Father,  15 from whom his whole family in heaven and on earth derives its name. ·          God joins a man and woman in marriage and therefore no one has authority to separate a married partner. Divorce is not allowed in Christian marriage except on the ground of marital unfaithfulness a partner.
